The Boston Celtics’ lopsided trade with the Philadelphia 76ers has now been finalized.
According to NBA reporter Evan Sidery, the deal, centered on the Celtics’ disgruntled 29-year-old star guard, has officially been announced by the 76ers.
“The Sixers officially announce their trade acquiring Jaylen Brown from the Celtics for Paul George and two first-round picks (to go along with the most favorable of the Golden State Warriors/Milwaukee Bucks/ and Oklahoma City Thunder’s 2028 second-round pick, and the most favorable of the Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers, and Washington Wizards 2030 second-round pick),” Sidery wrote on X/Twitter.
While there’s no doubt the Celtics are worse off than the 76ers following the conclusion of the trade, it’s clear the 18-time NBA champions have a plan in place they’re prepared to execute.
With Boston’s relationship with Brown souring after its failed Giannis Antetokounmpo trade attempt, it was only a matter of time before it found an ideal partner for Brown and moved forward with Jayson Tatum as their franchise player.
With the Celtics acquiring valuable draft capital in their trade with the 76ers, there’s heavy speculation that the organization could use their picks to help them pair Tatum with New Orleans Pelicans rising star Trey Murphy.
Boston was among the teams that HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto named as potential landing spots for Murphy this summer. It’ll be interesting to see if the Celtics can outduel their competition.
