Celtics legend Kevin Garnett discusses Jaylen Brown to Sixers trade

The Jaylen Brown trade from the Boston Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers has been one that has rocked the NBA. A complete shocker of a blockbuster, the Celtics sent Brown to the Sixers in exchange for Paul George, two firsts, and two seconds. Philadelphia moved off George's contract and were able to acquire Brown following a fantastic season for Boston.

Brown, a finals MVP when the Celtics won in 2024, will now look to get Philadelphia to the mountaintop for the first time since 1983. He will have a fantastic shot playing next to Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, and Joel Embiid. On paper, this is a strong roster as the front office has done a terrific job forming a roster on paper.

Celtics legend Kevin Garnett, however, is not feeling the Brown trade from Boston's perspective:

I ain’t like the trade…I wanted JB to retire as a Celtic...I didn't think, first off, that JB was in a position to be traded. Obviously, his comments and how he felt after they were departed from the playoffs is one thing, but I didn't think it was cause for him to be moved...You don’t break a great thing up. This was a great thing. Keeping it real, man, those two have been tested. It would have to be something detrimental for me to break that up. That was probably the most dynamic duo.

Kevin Garnett on the Jaylen Brown trade:

“I ain’t like the trade…I wanted JB to retire as a Celtic.”

“You don’t break a great thing up,” he said of Brown and Jayson Tatum’s partnership. “This was a great thing…That was probably the most dynamic duo.”

It will be interesting to see what Brown does for this Sixers team as time moves on, but it's obvious that Philadelphia is on the winning end of this trade at the moment. It remains to be seen how the fit looks on the court, but the Sixers have one of the more talented rosters in the Eastern Conference and will be near the top all season long.
