The Boston Celtics returned from the All-Star break and came out firing on all cylinders against the Golden State Warriors, who were without Steph Curry. It was the first meeting of the season between Boston and Golden State, and a tale of two teams trending in much different directions.
Jaylen Brown continued his hot streak, while Payton Pritchard once again grabbed the spotlight during a West Coast road trip. The Celtics were in control for most of the game, but the Warriors came out with heavy pressure and their best full court performance in the fourth quarter to make it a close game behind a 15-0 run.
In the end, while all of Boston's starters appeared as if they'd be on the bench for the final quarter, most of the starting unit was on the floor at the end of the game. Boston would pull off the victory, but it certainly came with a bit more pressure than expected in the end.
Jaylen Brown's statement: Coming right out of the All-Star break, Jaylen Brown put his foot on the pedal and never let up with his triple-double performance. Brown also added to his current streak, his 17th straight game with at least 20 points, the fourth-longest active streak in the league currently. During All-Star weekend, much was made about the potential return of Jayson Tatum, but Brown continued his incredible play this season and guided the Celtics to yet another victory.
Effective shooting: Boston shot incredibly well in this game, shooting over 50% from the field, over 40% from 3-point range, and just under 90% from the free throw line, making an impact at every scoring level. Four players scored in double digits in this one, led by Payton Pritchard who shot 10-18 from the field, putting together a game-high 26 points.
Paint dominance: In his post-game interview, Jaylen Brown raved about his ability to get in the paint and benefit from several layup opportunities, and it didn't stop there. Boston dominated in the paint in every aspect, outscoring Golden State by 14 points down low, and cleaned up the boards, outrebounding the Warriors by 14 as well.
Boston will continue their West Coast road trip with a visit to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night, the final meeting between the two historic franchises. The Celtics picked up a 21-point victory over the Lakers who were without both Luka Doncic and LeBron James in that first matchup, but both should be expected to play in the primetime matchup on Sunday. It'll be another opportunity for Jaylen Brown who is coming off a triple-double performance against the Warriors, to keep etching his name atop the best players in the league, and MVP conversation this season.
