The Boston Celtics fan base was voted as the most obnoxious home fan base in the entire NBA.
In an anonymous poll conducted by The Athletic, 159 players cast votes when asked which arena has the most obnoxious fans. The Celtics faithful at TD Garden received 51 of the votes, which was 32.1% of the votes. The next closest was the Philadelphia 76ers fans at Xfinity Mobile Arena at 17.9%. The Celtics fans at TD Garden were also voted the most passionate.
"There’s a fine line between fans being deemed passionate vs. obnoxious, and the Celtics’ loyalists are apparently walking it quite well," wrote The Athletic on Monday. "The former race wasn’t nearly as close as the latter, though, with the TD Garden crowd winning this one going away."
The Celtics and 76ers faced each other in the first round of the NBA playoffs. However, it turns out that NBA players think the fans at TD Garden are more of a problem than those in Philadelphia.
Both fan bases watched their teams get bounced in the NBA playoffs. The Celtics came into the season without Jayson Tatum, but the team quickly proved it can still compete. They got Tatum back and earned the No.2 seed in the East. However, he missed Game 7 against the 76ers, and now it's back to the drawing board for Brad Stevens.
He will now be tasked with deciding if Jaylen Brown and Tatum can continue to work as a duo to compete for championships. If the answer is no, he could look to trade Brown for a different superstar, like Giannis Antetokounmpo.
