The Boston Celtics are under a ton of criticism following their decision to send Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in a deal that netted them Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks. The Sixers appear to be the clear winners in this deal after making a huge move to position themselves nicely in the Eastern Conference.

With the trade becoming official on Monday, both teams can now talk about it and explain their reasonings for the move. While the Sixers have yet to announce any type of media availabilities with anybody regarding the trade, the Celtics had both President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens and new governor Bill Chisholm discuss why they sent Brown to Philadelphia.

Stevens, fresh off winning Executive of the Year, cited the CBA and the challenges the aprons present and how that certainly played a factor in moving Brown. He used the term "optionality" plenty of times in his response to questions by the Boston media.

Celtics president Brad Stevens: "The new CBA coincided 7 years after the supermaxes were instituted…We may not be sitting here if there was a rule in the CBA that said guys you drafted & signed to 35% supermaxes count 25% against cap, bc that would allow you to build out toward… pic.twitter.com/yV993G8zA5

The Sixers appear to have made out like bandits as they have taken advantage of Stevens and the Celtics wanting to keep focus on optionality for the future and having different avenues for improvement. Either way, Boston should still be in a good position alongside Philadelphia. While George is on the downside of his career, he can still play at a high level, as shown in the playoffs, and should find a way to fit next to Jayson Tatum and Co. and find a role.
