The crowded Fourth-of-July television viewing lineup will now include a golf option with a patriotic twist.
The inaugural Liberty Cup, which will be aired on Golf Channel at 3 p.m. ET, features five teams from each branch of the military competing in a match-play championship at Liberty National in New Jersey.
The event was held May 4-6 and was created by Liberty National Golf Club – which has hosted PGA Tour playoff events and the Presidents Cup – and the Veteran Golfers Association, a nationwide nonprofit that includes more than 46,000 veterans and their family members competing in local tournaments.
"The Liberty Cup is more than a golf tournament; it is a celebration of the men and women who have served our country and the bonds that continue long after military service ends,” said Josh Peyton, VGA president and CEO. “At the Veteran Golfers Association, we believe golf creates opportunities for connection, purpose and belonging, helping veterans build relationships and community. Sharing this event from Liberty National on Golf Channel during the Fourth of July holiday is a powerful reminder of the values that unite us as Americans.”
The two-hour telecast will include special features on Liberty Cup players and highlights of the event and will be hosted by Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee, Damon Hack and Jimmy Roberts.
