Donovan Mitchell landed a historic deal for the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday morning, a signing that many thought was a bit of a surprise.

However, I think it's important that we look at what Mitchell has done throughout his career, as he certainly deserves to get paid. I understand that he hasn't won a championship, but Mitchell is one of the best players in this league and will always get the money he deserves.

However, it raises the question of whether that has some level of impact on the Cavaliers signing LeBron James. While that's a fair question to ask after any move, a writer at The Athletic recently noted that it doesn't affect his potential signing.

“Otherwise, James Harden remains unsigned. The two sides have agreed to the framework and dollar amount of a new contract and are waiting to see if they need the flexibility to sign LeBron (or another free agent) first, which means Harden’s salary would be spread out over three seasons instead of two.

"A roster spot remains open, potentially for Bronny James. On Tuesday, Mitchell and the Cavs agreed on a four-year, $273 million contract extension Tuesday that could keep him on the shores of Lake Erie through the 2031 season, a league source confirmed to The Athletic. Mitchell signing such a deal will not impact the salary cap for this coming season, so it wouldn’t impact Cleveland’s attempt to sign LeBron,” Joe Vardon wrote.

It's also positive to hear that the Cavaliers have the necessary roster spot to bring in Bronny. There seems to be an expectation that Bronny will follow his father, though there's no guarantee of what happens in that situation.
