Neymar’s hopes of playing at the 2026 World Cup appear to be fading as his situation at Santos continues to draw scrutiny.

Santos currently sit 16th in the standings, while the Brazilian superstar has missed two of their last three matches. That combination has intensified criticism of his current level and availability.

Amid that backdrop, Casemiro addressed the situation in an interview with TNT Sports. The Manchester United midfielder offered a balanced view on Neymar’s uncertain position regarding a potential World Cup call-up.

Casemiro made it clear that Neymar’s talent remains unmatched within Brazil’s current pool. However, he believes another factor will ultimately determine his place in the squad.

“If Neymar is called up, what will he be available for? Will he accept [being on the bench]? For me, that’s the big question,” he began by saying.

On the other hand, the midfielder stressed that Neymar still offers unique qualities on the ball. His technical level continues to separate him from other attacking options.

“Neymar’s quality today, with his control, his understanding, his passes, there’s no one who can match that.”

Estevao injury could open unexpected door for Neymar​


Recent developments may yet shift the situation in Neymar’s favour. An injury elsewhere in Brazil’s attacking ranks has created uncertainty.

Estevao, widely expected to feature at the World Cup, has suffered a serious muscular issue. His participation in the tournament is now in doubt.

That absence would open an additional attacking place in the squad. Neymar would likely emerge as one of the contenders for that role.
