EAST LANSING – Michigan State basketball didn't play its best, but it was good enough to just barely beat Ohio State at the Breslin Center on Sunday, Feb. 22

MSU outscored the Buckeyes by nine points in the second half, led by 20 points in the game from unsung big man Carson Cooper to beat OSU, 66-60, with a late comeback from the Buckeyes making things very interesting.

The win helps cap off a 2-0 week for MSU after it entered the week having lost three of four games.

The Spartans overcame a dreadful first half on offense, when they shot just 8-for-27 from the field as forward Jaxon Kohler missed significant time in foul trouble. Cooper led the team with just six points at the break as Jeremy Fears Jr. had two points on 0-for-3 shooting to go along with four assists. It all led to MSU trailing at the half, 28-23.

MSU came out flying in the second half with a 13-5 run to take a 36-33 lead, but the Buckeyes didn't go down without a fight, punching right back with a run of their own to take a 43-40 lead.

In the end, the Spartans were able to wear down a shorthanded Buckeyes team playing without two of their best players, forcing a red-hot Bruce Thornton to take tough shots as he still finished with 32 points.

The Spartans, who have had a lot of time between games recently with just four games in 16 days including Sunday's game, won't play again until Thursday when they head to West Lafayette, Indiana for a huge game against Purdue.
