Carmen Mlodzinski Embracing New Role With Pirates originally appeared on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Add SportsNet Pittsburgh as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Pittsburgh Pirates activated pitcher Carmen Mlodzinski off the restricted list on Monday.
Mlodzinski was on the restricted list for just one day, as he will be moved to the bullpen. It’s a change in his role, which he was frustrated about, but he never asked for a trade and isn’t considering one as he plans to embrace the new role in the bullpen.
“I wanna do what’s best to help us win baseball games,” Mlodzinski said. “Being around these guys, this team, it’s a pretty cool group to be a part of. Of course, I want to start and will always want that, but winning games takes precedence.”
Pirates manager Don Kelly said Mlodzinski will be a high-leverage bulk reliever. But, whatever situation he is called in, the right-hander is willing to do whatever.
“If they called on me Tuesday, if they need me to do that, I would be willing to do whatever they’re asking,” Mlodzinski said. “That kind of sums it up for me, honestly.”
Mlodzinski is 4-3 with a 3.76 ERA in 11 games, including nine starts. In his last two starts, he went 10 innings, allowing just one run while striking out three.
The Pirates will begin a three-game series on the road against the Houston Astros on Tuesday.
