Carmelo Anthony was part of millions around the world who celebrated the New York Knicks’ NBA championship. The franchise ended its 53-year title drought on Saturday by defeating the San Antonio Spurs in five games.
The 10-time All-Star starred for the Knicks during his prime from 2011 to 2017. However, he failed to deliver a championship despite his strong play. New York only made the playoffs three times during his tenure.

Anthony reposted the Knicks’ championship graphic on his Instagram story on Sunday, including a message for them.
“@nyknicks DID IT FOR THE BOROUGHS!!! SALUTE CHAMPS!” Anthony wrote.
Jalen Brunson led charge in Game 5, pouring in 45 points on 12-for-25 shooting. He earned Finals MVP honors with his all-around brilliance and showcasing his clutch genes throughout the series.

Anthony entered the NBA as the No. 3 pick in the legendary 2003 draft. He spent the first seven years of his career with the Denver Nuggets before he was traded to New York, his hometown team. The Syracuse product also suited up for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers.
He announced his retirement on May 22, 2023, after playing 19 seasons in the league. Anthony, a six-time All-NBA team member, won the scoring championship in 2013 and part of the NBA’s 75th anniversary team. He also won the national championship in 2003 and earned the the NCAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award.
