Christian Pulisic was heavily criticized following the U.S. men's national team's Round of 16 loss to Belgium, and former USWNT star Carli Lloyd was among the harshest critics.
But no, news of Pulisic's microfracture and bone bruise isn't going to prompt an apology from the Fox Sports analyst. In fact, she doubled down and went as far as to misstate how available Pulisic was this past year.
When a fan tweeted at Lloyd to apologize to Pulisic amid the injury news, Lloyd said that her remarks had nothing to do with Pulisic's postgame comments about rest. But she did bring up how Pulisic skipped the Gold Cup in order to rest for the club season and this World Cup.
"He ended up resting the whole year. That’s the facts," she wrote. Except those aren't facts.
Pulisic did not rest all year. He appeared in 30 Serie A matches for AC Milan and played over 1,600 minutes. And though he was a non-factor for his club at the turn of the new year, he started the season off spectacularly with 10 goals and 2 assists in all competitions before that 2026 scoring drought. His only goal contributions in 2026 were a pair of assists.
Pulisic does deserve criticism for skipping the Gold Cup given how he struggled for much of this World Cup. But Lloyd's "nothing personal against him" tweet becomes awfully personal when she frames fiction as fact.
Lloyd doesn't have to apologize for her postgame criticism, but this latest tweet was unnecessary. That's the facts.

I don’t owe anyone an apology. My comment wasn’t about his post game interview. He skipped Gold Cup last summer because he wanted to rest and be ready for WC. He ended up resting the whole year. That’s the facts. Nothing personal against him. https://t.co/iW3iiKPUIQ

So I didn't mind Carli's comments post-game, but this is just a cheap shot and factually incorrect.
In Pulisic's season "off"... he played over 1800 minutes for Milan across all competitions, plus another 600 for the national team across friendlies and the World Cup. 14 GCs for… https://t.co/syi4xUw4TD
