Former New York Giants great Carl Banks strongly believes cornerback Deonte Banks will have a productive season in 2026, should he remain with the team.

Banks played in 16 games for the Giants in 2025, with the 24-year-old starting in six. He saw time outside and at nickel corner during the year.

The Maryland product had started in all 29 career games played until last season. He went without an interception, along with five passes defensed on the year, following heavy scrutiny for his play in 2024. The Giants started Paulson Adebo, as well as Cor'Dale Flott, in the 12 and 14 games, respectively.

Yet, as a guest on Bleav in Giants, Carl Banks expressed his confidence in Deonte Banks playing well in 2026.

"I'd be greatly disappointed if Deonte Banks descended into a glorified kick returner," Banks said. "There's just way too much there, right? And I am going to go out on a limb. If he's on this team, he's gonna be a highly productive player next year."

Flott will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Adebo is set to return for his second season with the Giants in 2026. Cornerback Andru Phillips, who started in eight of 17 games at nickel corner last season, adds to the competition that Deonte Banks faces in the Giants' defensive backfield for defensive snaps in 2026.
