Cards taking their Final Exam as far as I'm Concerned

With all the changes taking place this year and with the coming 'passing' of Fitzgerald, i am wondering if I want to reinvest in this 'new' team. I am willing to see if they can pass what might very well be their final test/exam for me. Over the next couple months I will be grading them on 3 things. If they cannot answer all 3 needs to my satisfactiion, I am afraid they will have failed and dropping out will seem inevitable for me. I have given them many years to graduate beyond the mundane, and they have yet to pass with anything but a C- in most of their even better years.

So this is their Final for me: (its a 3 parter)

1. Find a decent QB in the draft, trade, or FA who they truly feel has a decent shot at being their franchise QB. Too late for playing the stop gap game again.

2. Acquire a solid exceptional cb to play opposite PP.

3. Address all deficiencies in our OL. No more chances to get it right.

It is a pass/fail Final Exam.

not very realistic sissy...

I am as hard on this team as anybody else but there is only so much you can do in one off season.
we need a QB...I am right there with ya on this one. But whether or not that QB is any good "for us" wont be really known for close to a year...a big name builds excitement but doesnt help you on the field... maybe Keim signs Tyrod Taylor... some fans will be pissed, others will call him a bridge QB...and if they dont draft a rookie then guys like me will say keims tiny little balls sucked up into his body cavity... But then, what if McCoys offense fits Tyrod and we go 14-2 and end up in the NFC Championship?
I was one of the only fans excited when we got Palmer...some thought he was washed while others were just...meh... I had the benefit of watching lots of Raiders games and knowing he wasnt the issue in oakland...as angry as so many fans were...Palmer worked out alright for us... on the flip side...I was also on the leinart side of the Leinart Vs Warner debates we used to have on here...so I aint just tootin my horn,lol...I was pretty wrong that time.

IMO,..we need to get a QB we can ride with prior to the draft...just in case...

2. we dont need an "exceptional" CB opposite of PP21...we just need a guy who is legit... having hall of famers everywhere would be awesome but it just aint realistic...and the truth is, so long as we are generating pressure up front our secondary will get chances to make plays.

3. "all" deficiencies?? What deficiencies do we have exactly?? I have watched this team as much as anybody and I think we have tons of talent along the oline... I also think it has been poorly coached... fortunately we just got a new oline coach, who...one would think...is currently watching forty miles worth of game film to see where our guys can be improved.
I would like to see us draft a center in round 2 or 3 and sign andrew Norwell ...
but honestly, barring injuries we are solid at OT right now...now, that strength and conditioning coach?? Hmmm... THAT dude may need to kick rocks...

point being... if you are going to put your fandom on the line...at least be realistic in what you expect man...
we are going to make lots of moves over the next six months...and lots of moves we fans are calling for will not be made... but in the end the NFL is not an instant gratification league...some moves will look great and not pan out...others will piss everyone off...but really help the team...we just need to wait and see, and temper our expectations just a little

Although sometimes I wish I could stop being a Cardinals fan my brain and heart won’t let me. As far as what you think they should get done this year to strengthen the team I completely agree and should be done with no excuses. It’s Keim time. He needs to prove he can get things done and in one off season.

Personally, I think you miss some of the best parts of the story when you only watch teams when they are doing well. Not to mention you skew your own reality in the respect that nothing short of a championship can be celebrated.

There is a reason there was more damage done in the New England area after the Superbowl than there was in Philadelphia. Just sayin'

Also being a lifelong Golden State Warriors fan, the previous 35 years of watching the franchise has made this all worth it. I am soaking this up. I hope the Cards can get there...

SBF, Your OP made me stop and reconsider my own loyal allegiance to the Cards for the majority of my life---I actually saw the Chicago Cards play.

The only thing that makes sense to me is that I was a kid and professional athletes were heroes. My uncle was a big Chicago Card fan and he relocated with his job only a few months before the Chicago Cards became the St. Louis Cards---he couldn't believe his luck to have his favorite team follow him to St. Louis. He bought season tickets in Chicago and then in St. Louis and made sure to have an extra to invite all his nieces/nephews, etc to at least one game a year. We'd gather around the cookie jar and draw that spare ticket. It was always an exciting event.

Ditto going to the games---the thrill of walking up the ramp and into the inner seating area with all the fans, the marching band, the cheering crowd, the players getting warmed up, a big fat greasy hot dog and cold Coke, then shouting until hoarse for the Cards. Forget the W-L record---it was that childhood experience and fun I'd have with my uncle/cousins either at the game or gathering around the old B&W TV at his house with some BBQ.

Don't know when you became a Cards fan . . . if it was as a kid or adult. My suggestion would be to just allow yourself to be a kid again and stay with the Cards, relax, enjoy the games for what they are---diversion and entertainment in this crazy world. Imagine you're the QB tossing that game winning pass or Fitz blowing past the Green Bay D. . . it's all good when you can do that. You can still be a kid at heart and a fan for a lifetime.

What team you going to jump too? Or switch sports? Or just cease and dissist ? I mean I remember no team in Arizona - I remember bad teams in Arizona - I Remember few home fans at our own stadium - drowned out by opposing fans - raider fans passing a card fan they knocked out, over their heads and dumping his bloody az in the center isle behind the goal post at sds. His Final exam?

Every yard was valued by us Card fans than other teams fans, every first down, touch down, every win and playoffs were, well I was behind the goal post playing the chargers - when we went to our first playoffs in an eternity 97-98 ?

We take no crap from no other teams fans - we are the finest of metal, forged in the flames of adversity. It was not so long ago, just a moment ago to me.

I appreciate this team and Lil Billy Bidwill coming to Arizona, and they have always been, More entertaining than other teams - even when they were horrible. Are you not entertained?

Cardinal up and take it like a fan, We are a very talented football team at this time - there are 3 -1st round QBs available and a super bowl mvp QB - Gabbert can be signed immediately - and we have the best back in the NFL in DJ- top sacker in Jones - top cb in Patrick Peterson and Larry freaking Fitzgerald!

Don’t know about the new staff, but they are gaining traction! IMO one would be foolish to abandon ship at this point - we ain’t even hit our stride yet!

What grade do you give yourself as a fan? On this final exam! As a fan base we still have a ways to go. A Lot to learn, plan and execute.

Cards will never "kick some az.." I doubt very seriously that we beat the Browns next time we should face them. Their fans have more to be excited about the future for. Heck, if there was ever a team that epitomizes the phrase "Wait till next year" more than the Cards, it was the Cubs, I mean the Seahawks, I mean the Eagles, hell there is no one left. The Cards are all alone and I won't live long enough to ever see them change. Sad really! In a parallel universe AZ got that new franchise team, instead of the Cards, and we are all happy winners.

My 2c for the offseason:
1. FA-Get a QB, and I'll go with my A,B,C's (Anyone But Cousins, since we can't afford him). I'll be happy with whomever SK signs. Then, start to rebuild the WR position, and there will be options. With our third and last significant signing, I'm hoping for a guard, like Norwell. Hopefully, we can get the HB to re-do his contract, in order to free up the money for FA.
2. Draft-1st pick a CB. My hope is that we don't trade up, as we need the picks, and that four or five QB's go before we pick (I don't see a sure QB thing, though I do like Mayfield, and would take him, if he fell to us), thus making a VG CB available for AZ.
2nd pick, Mason Rudolph, if he's available. If not, go WR, fingers crossed for Anthony Miller.
3rd pick, if we missed out on Rudolph, go after the Richmond or Memphis QB's. If we landed MR with our 2nd pick go WR.
4th pick, select a LB. Hard to target a position, since I'm still not sure if we're a 3-4 or a 4-3, but do feel we'll need a LB who can play inside.
Rest of the draft, concentrate on the Defense.

You are thinking of reasons to leave instead of reasons to stay. So, trade in the old car, sign the divorce papers, quit that job. If you find you can no longer enjoy and cheer for the Cards, time to walk through the door.

Well, I didn't think they had it in them! I am surprised, and honestly relieved that the Cards draft has given me a renewed hope for a promising future. I don't remember any draft they had, until this one, that actually mirrored exactly what I hoped they would do.

I wasn't bluffing when I said I was about done with our Cardinals. All the fun just seemed gone to me. But they have satisfied my 3 points in my original post above enough for me to want to stick around and root for them. It is hard finding a new team to root for, and not a pleasant thing to do. So I am glad not feeling it necessary now.

Hope you all will accept my reversal of attitude. I expect to enjoy watching the draft picks I truly liked and had hoped for. I must say that the glass now appears half full.
