The series finale between the Cardinals and Diamondbacks was washed out by rain on Thursday night and the game will be made up on July 23 -- a mutual off day for the two clubs -- at 4:15 PM CT at Busch Stadium.
Tickets sold for the postponed game will be valid for the July 23 makeup date, per the Cardinals.
The Cardinals will be coming back to St. Louis following a six-game road trip against the Diamondbacks (in Phoenix) and the Angels (in Anaheim). The Cardinals play in Anaheim at 3:07 PM CT on July 22 and return to St. Louis to face the Dbacks on what was originally scheduled to be an off day. The Cardinals will then begin a home series against the Reds.
Arizona hosts the Cardinals July 17-19 in the first three games after the break for the MLB All-Star Game. They then host the Athletics for three games before stopping in St. Louis to face the Redbirds on July 23. They start a series in Washington, D.C., against the Nationals July 24.
Michael McGreevy, who was slated to start Thursday's series finale against the Dbacks, will pitch on Friday night in the series opener against the Marlins at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals dropped two of three in Miami from April 20-22.
The Cardinals won Monday's series opener against the Dbacks behind six innings of stellar work from starting pitcher Andre Pallante. Kyle Leahy pitched well on Tuesday, but the game was scoreless going into the ninth inning. Arizona scored four times in the top of the ninth and the Cardinals countered with three in the bottom half of the inning.
On Wednesday night, left-handed starter Matthew Liberatore hoped to atone for his poor outing in Kansas City last week, but he came unglued after taking a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning. The Dbacks scored six times in the fourth inning -- the second instance of the Cardinals' left-hander surrendering a six-run inning in a five-day period.
On a semi-related note, the Cardinals announced that left-handed pitcher Brycen Mautz was being scratched from his scheduled start with Triple-A Memphis on Thursday night, signaling a potential call-up to the big leagues for the club's 2025 Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
Mautz, a second-round pick by the Cardinals in the 2022 MLB Draft, is 0-2 with a 2.45 ERA over 13 starts this season with Triple-A Memphis. He has struck out 62 batters in 58 innings of work.
Mautz was promoted from Memphis on May 24 and expected to make his MLB debut in a start against the Reds in Cincinnati, however the game was washed out by rain. His debut came a night later when he pitched three innings of relief and struck out two Brewers. He was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on May 26.
