SPRINGFIELD–The Springfield Cardinals first homestand of the 2026 Texas League season came to a miserable close, after losing, 7-2 to the Tulsa Drillers, on Sunday, to drop their fifth game in-a-row.

The Cardinals managed to score a pair of runs late, but that was about the only bright spot in the contest for them. The Baby Birds have quickly gone from feeling the thrill of victory to the agony of defeat, after winning the first four games of the season, then dropping their last five.

Following Sunday’s loss, Springfield is now in second-to-last place in the Texas League North Division with a record of 4-5. The only team worse is the Arkansas Travelers at 3-6. Meanwhile, thanks to Tulsa’s 5-game winning streak the Drillers stand atop the division at 7-2.

The Cardinals will be on the road, in Wichita, for their next six games, so hopefully 2025 Manager of the Year, Patrick Anderson can help his team shake off the tough stretch and ignite a new winning streak.
