Cardinals' Show Team Helps Spread Holiday Cheer
The Arizona Cardinals Show Team recently returned from an exciting trip to Fort Hood, TX, spreading holiday cheer while performing for the troops and their families. During their stay at Ft. Hood, the girls were able to sign autographs and visit with the soldiers, many of which were being deployed to Iraq. The show team also held a Jr. Cheer camp for the children of Ft. Hood. The following is a day to day diary from one of the cheerleaders, Julie:
On Friday we arrived in Austin Texas and boarded the vans to Ft. Hood! Ft. Hood is about an hour north of Austin and is the largest Army installation in the world! Our first stop was a tour of the PX and then later on to see the museums on base, featuring each of the two divisions. Both the 1st Cavalry and the 4th Infantry reside in Ft. Hood and our tours of their respective museums were very educational. We made sure to tell everyone about our show the following night and asked them to spread the word!
Saturday was a full day starting with a kid’s camp at Palmer theatre. We had 100 kids there and with each age group taught them dances to add into our show! We had a great time with all the kids and they couldn’t wait to come back to perform in the holiday show that evening.
Next, we headed to the PX for a signing. We met many of the soldiers and their families, many of them getting ready to depart for Iraq. We could not smile and thank them enough for the sacrifice that they are making for our country and our freedom. It was an honor to be able to shake their hands and take pictures with their children.
Saturday evening we performed our show and it was a hit! Each of our dances had a holiday theme, including Jingle Bells and a Rock and Roll Christmas! The most memorable part of the show for us had to be our American Idol portion, where we heard from an amazing woman. Singing the National Anthem she brought tears to every person in the audience and each Cardinals Cheerleader backstage! The children were a great end to our show and had every audience member on their feet!
Thank you Ft. Hood, Texas! Everyone that we encountered was so kind and friendly! It was a privilege to be a part of your holiday celebration. Thank you to all the troops and God Bless!
-Julie
