The Arizona Cardinals beat the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday 27-14 in Las Vegas. Head coach Mike LaFleur said that everyone would play in the game. That was almost true. Pretty much everyone got at least a few snaps.

However, a few players did not get into the game. Were they getting starter/veteran treatment, or were they because of injuries?

Tight end Trey McBride played one single snap before coming out of the game.

The following players did not log a single snap in the game:

  • QB Carson Beck
  • RB James Conner
  • RB Trey Benson
  • WR Xavier Weaver
  • TE Tip Reiman
  • TE Elijah Higgins
  • DL Zach Carter
  • DL Dante Stills
  • OLB Josh Sweat
  • OLB Baron Browning
  • ILB Austin Keys
  • CB Garrett Williams
  • S Budda Baker

PUP players

Sweat, Reiman and Williams were ineligible to play, as they are on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list recovering from injuries. They have not practiced since the start of training camp.

Known injuries

It was reported Thursday afternoon that Beck had a minor rib injury. He could have played, but they opted to hold him out of the game.

Conner, coming back from a serious ankle injury, hasn't done 11-on-11s in practice yet. It was not expected that he play. Benson had his surgically repaired knee flare up and hasn't played in the preseason yet.

Carter exited the Hall of Fame Game with an injury. Keys played a ton in that game but has been out of practice since.

Starter treatment?

Baker likely was given the starter treatment by not playing. But Higgins, Stills and Browning not playing were puzzling. All are expected starters or at least known rotational players.

Do they have unknown injuries? Are the Cardinals expecting to move on from them? Or did LaFleur think they didn't need the work?

Question mark

Weaver likely had an injury. He is definitely not a sure thing for the roster.
