Chicago Bulls great Michael Jordan and late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant were two of the greatest players the NBA saw in the last 35 years or so. Jordan became arguably the greatest ever by leading the Bulls to six championships and winning 10 scoring titles and five MVPs, while Bryant drove the Lakers to five world titles and provided fans across the world with numerous memories and tons of inspiration.
Since Bryant's tragic death in a helicopter crash in 2020, his memorabilia has skyrocketed in value. A number of such items have sold for high sums of money lately, including a basketball card that went for $2.3 million earlier this month.
Now, a card featuring both Jordan and Bryant has set a record for the highest amount any sports card has ever sold for by going for nearly $13 million on Saturday night.
Via ESPN:
It seems fitting that the card was sold for that record sum on Saturday, as Saturday would've been Bryant's 47th birthday. Sunday, Aug. 24, was once designated as "Mamba Day," and it also happens to be the anniversary of when the Hall of Famer led Team USA men's basketball to a gold medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics.
