The Washington Capitals representing at the IIHF World Championships in Switzerland returned home without hardware, as Team Canada fell to Norway in the bronze medal game on Sunday.

Capitals bench boss Spencer Carbery and goaltending coach Scott Murray were both on staff for the Canadians, who fell 3-2 in overtime as Norway won its first ever IIHF medal in upset fashion.

Norway was leading 2-0 late, but Robert Thomas struck twice to force overtime. There, Noah Steen broke out for a 2-on-1 rush and called his own number, putting the game-winner past Jet Greaves to seal the victory.

Canada went 7-0 in the preliminary round and beat Ryan Leonard, who finished the tournament with three goals, two assists, 10 penalty minutes and 30 shots in eight games, and Team USA in the quarterfinals, but fell in the semifinal game to Finland before losing to Norway.
