Okay so as I like to do I'm looking forward to the offseason and to do so with any acuracy what so ever it's necessary to have an idea of what implications certain moves would have on the cap. Any help you can provide with the scenarios below would be greatly appreciated...
Fitz- If we re-structure down from his 14 mil cap # what type of savings could we estimate?

Berry- if we were top cut him what type of cap savings would we see?

Gandy- If we re-structure or cut him; what would the estimated cap implications be?

Wells- would it make sense (save cap room) with the way his contract is structured to cut him if we could throw that cap room at Faneca? I'm assuming his contract is too cap heavy to justify keeping both.

Ross Would we save significant room by cutting him? Could he be a candidate to restructure for significant savings?

Holt With the way his contract was structured what kind of savings would we see by shipping him off?

Shipp - Whens the last time he produced? What would the savings be from cutting him?

From what I have gathered as things currently stand (including Fitz' 14 mil cap #) we would be about 30 mil under the new cap with 34 players under contract and a handfull of RFA's that we can re-up for low to mid tenders fairly cheaply. That being considered along with the potential moves above...how do we look?

I don't believe the Cardinals lose anything for cutting Holt since his bonus was paid as a roster bonus and thus isn't spread out over the contract.

so that's gotta save a couple mil for his salary and a BIG savings by restructuring Fitz. I believe Berry has a cap # aroound 5 mil this year and being that he's been here a while I think we can see a few more mil in savings by parting way's with him.

They gain by cutting Holt. Just by not having him out there makes us a better team.

Keep in mind I am at work and dont have any of my info handy so these are estimates off the top of my head.

Fitz depending on structure of course we should be saving at minimum 7 Mill of cap space.

Since Berry is in last year of deal I believe the cap savings would be pretty good. Close to 4 Mill.

Restructureing Gandy I would assume would save us about 2-3 Mill. Cutting him would be about 5 Mill in savings.

Wells - Makes good backup money. Not sure if cutting him would make or break a Faneca deal.

Ross towards the end of his deal so cutting him wouldnt make for a whole lot of dead cap space. Probably save about 3 Mill.

Holt, I have no clue off the top of my head.

Shipp would probably save about 1.5 Mill.

Also we were sitting on 30+ Mill before any Fitz incentives. After Fitz incentives we are closer to above 20 Mill then we are to 30 Mill mark.

The one positive of the types of deals we've been doing the last few years is that they make it easier to create cap space when needed. Now, we really haven't done much of that. This would be the offseason when we should be pretty aggressive in creating cap space and getting key guys re-signed.

I think we should get one "big" free agent and a handful of midlevel guys too.

Thanks Joe your the man. So it sounds to me like if we were to extend Fitz and make the majority of the moves above re-structuring Gandy and keeping Wells as a backup we would have more than 40 mil to re-sign Dansby and Pace and PLENTY of room to add a quality starter somewhere and fill the rest of the roster with depth while still leaving plenty of room under the cap

Thats assuming all of those moves are made. Which is highly unlikely. Plus we have to pay our RFA's and EFA's so after making half the moves listed and adding in any incentives, escalators, or bonuses I havent accounted for yet with Rolle, Matt, and Levi we will still probably only be at best just under 30 Mill. Depending on how Dansby and Pace contracts are laid out of course.

Either way its sliced there should be plenty of pie for our own players, free agency, and the draft (which we will not be paying nearly as much considering we wont have a top 10 pick).

I would rather go after Suggs, cut Berry and let Pace walk. We get Chike back and have 4 good LB's IMO.

Chike, Hayes, Dansby, Suggs (Beisel)

Athletic talented LB's with lots of pass rush(Improving secondary)

Beerz,

I would like to keep Pace even if we sign Suggs. One of our biggest problems is depth. Pace provides us a high quality who can step in if one of starters is injured. Of course the contract has to be reasonable.

I don't have the details on Fitz' contract so I'll leave those details to somebody that have more info than me.

Berry
Base salary of $4M + $1M in bonus money = $4M in total savings if cut, since Berry is on the last year of the deal.

Gandy -If we re-structure or cut him; what would the estimated cap implications be?
That would depend on the deal he's getting....

Wells
Wells' deal has low base salaries in the first three years, meaning it doesn't make a whole lot of sence cutting him until his base salary rise to $2.4M after next season. Wells has a $1.1M base salary next season and the 3 years prorated bonus of $600k would total to $1.8M or a $700k cap hit.

Ross
$1.8M + $700k =$2.5M.
Two years left on his deal, meaning $1.4M in prorated bonus = $400k in total cap savings.

Holt
I believe cutting Holt would mean a $2.75 cap saving, since the $4M in garanteed money were all paid this season - meaning a $11M/4 = $2.75M cap saving.

Shipp
I believe Shipp signed a evenly structured deal, but I'm not sure. If he did, cutting him would mean a $700k saving.

Ross will be making 2.8 Mill in base salary.

Holt didnt get a signing bonus so there is no money to be prorated. It was all Roster bonuses. 2 Mill this season and another 2 Mill this coming season. Cutting him could save up to 4 Mill if we cut him before his roster bonus is due. If we cut him afterwards we save 2Mill.

Again, everyone is screaming "cut him."

Does anyone remember the fact that Oliver Ross took a pay cut last year just to be a Cardinal? How many players do that?

Sadly, he was injured the entire year, but at the very least, Ross is quality depth and a guy that wants to be here. Shouldn't we consider talking to him about a restructure before just cutting him?

Sadly anybody watching Cardinals football the past 3 season can see that Ross is a bust for the Cardinals. We all want to see players succed as cardinals. Sometimes it just doesn't work that way. I got blasted by people by wanting to cut Okeafor and Berry last season. Where have these players been. They have been at the rehab center. Not doing the Cardinals any good. Again I would like the Cardinals to release Berry and Okeafor. Over the hill and clearly not productive for what they are paid.

After his time here, it's likely that Ross took a pay cut just to be in the NFL. He's been terrible here. He had a good camp, apparently, and I don't think that we should get rid of him if he's willing to take another paycut, but I don't think he has any long-term loyalty to this franchise. He's been very bad here, though.

1. Sorry Darth Llama, but I am fairly certain Ross took a pay cut because if he didn't he would have been released.

2. He does provide depth but I don't think it is quality. Unless you like watching him chase the DE to the QB.

3. Even if he agrees to play for the league minimum I would rather a rookie or a 2nd year player who has some potential than have Ross on the roster.

We can cut any of these players after June 1st and only one years signing bonus will count againist these years salary cap. The one exception is Holt who needs to be cut before his roster bonus is due.

My memory is a little shaky right now. How many players can the Cardinals cut after the season to reserve them for the June 1st cap hit.

Why would we just let Pace walk away. We stuck with him during all his unproductive years and now that we finally found a role for him we just let him walk?
I think he is versatile enough to "overpay" him a bit. He can even step in a D-Line at time.
This is a great year for this organization to go for it.

How about Okeafor, Hayes, Dansby, Suggs AND Pace? This team is in a cap situation to fix ANY 2 positions it deems the weakest AND add depth to any area where it is needed.
The draft then becomes a bonus where we can draft the best player regardless of position.

Ugh. No. People are concerned with Dansby being a contract player, but are fine with overpaying for Calvin Pace?
