Team Canada was a favorite to advance out of the pool stage for the first time when the World Baseball Classic began, but sloppy play cost it a game against Panama.

Now, the Canadians will likely need to win out to qualify for the quarterfinals, which would include an upset of pool-favorite Puerto Rico.

Pool C has been full of close games, and my Canada vs. Puerto Rico predictions and World Baseball Classic picks explain why you can expect another tight one on Tuesday, March 10.

Canada vs Puerto Rico prediction

Canada vs Puerto Rico best bet: Under 8 (-110 at DraftKings)

Canada committed three errors and allowed just one earned run in a 4-3 loss to Panama on Sunday night.

The Canadians have gotten strong pitching performances and are hoping that continues when they hand the ball to Jordan Balazovic, who was once a top prospect for the Twins.

Meanwhile, Puerto Rico’s pitching has been outstanding throughout the tournament, with the team pitching to a WBC-leading 0.68 ERA through three games.

Canada’s lineup has been inconsistent outside of the Naylor Bros. and Owen Caissie. Meanwhile, Puerto Rico is missing most of its big bats in this tourney. I love the Under here.

Under 8

Canada moneyline

+440 at DraftKings

Puerto Rico has had the better pitching, while you can give Canada the slight edge in the lineups.

Canada leads the pool in batting average and OPS and will be Puerto Rico’s toughest matchup of the tournament to this point. It’ll face Jose De Leon, who had a cup of coffee with the Red Sox last season but has a 6.93 ERA at Triple-A.

Since I’m betting this game will be low scoring, there’s a little bit of value on Canada to pull off the upset as well.

Owen Caissie star player prop

Owen Caissie best bet: 2+ hits (+230 at DraftKings)

He may not be a household name yet, but Canada outfielder Owen Caissie could make some noise with the Miami Marlins this season, just like he is for his country in this tournament.

Caissie is 4-for-8 with a double, a home run, and three RBI. If there's someone who can lead the charge for Canada against this tough Puerto Rico pitching staff, it’s him.

Canada vs Puerto Rico opening odds

  • Moneyline: Canada +200 | Puerto Rico -250
  • Run line: Canada +1.5 (-110) | Puerto Rico -1.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: Over 8.0 | Under 8.0
