Tyler Allgeier has found a new home, and he hopes a career resurgence will come along with it.
Allgeier, a fifth-round pick of the Falcons in the 2022 NFL Draft, has spent the first four seasons of his NFL career in Atlanta. Now, with free agency set to open and Allgeier's rookie contract coming to an end, reports suggest he is set to sign a two-year contract worth $12.25 million with the Arizona Cardinals.
The Cardinals could prove the perfect spot to rejuvenate Allgeier's career after his production has dropped off since his rookie season. The room will be crowded, as he'll have to battle James Conner and Trey Benson for carries. But both missed the majority of last season with injuries, and if Allgeier is able to stay healthy, he could have a shot at being the top back for the Cardinals.
Allgeier rushed for 1,035 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie in 2022, appearing in 16 games and starting seven for the Falcons. But his production has fallen off despite appearing in all 17 games in each season.
He managed 683 yards and four touchdowns in 2023, and then 644 yards and three touchdowns in 2024. Last season, he set a career high with eight rushing touchdowns, but his total yardage dropped again to just 514 yards. After his seven starts as a rookie, he's started just five games in the past three years.
