WASHINGTON, DC - MARCH 29: Cameron Boozer #12 of the Duke Blue Devils reacts during the first half of a game against the UConn Huskies in the Elite Eight of the 2026 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament at Capital One Arena on March 29, 2026 in Washington, DC. Sunday turned out to be a busier day than expected for Cameron Boozer.

First, Boozer got more hardware for the trophy wing of the house he’ll soon buy, as he was named the Naismith Player of the Year award Sunday. It’s richly deserved – he had a phenomenal season by any standard, and unbelievable for a freshman. Who does that?

And secondly, he revealed that he suffered an orbital fracture against UConn.

We’re not knocking UConn specifically here, but there are three images of Boozer’s year that are hard forget: first, the deep scratches NC State left on his arm that were still visible against UConn, second his torn jersey in the St. John’s game, and now third, a broken face thanks to UConn.

He’s big and well-paid, and he’s not complaining. But it should put an end to the Duke-gets-all-the-calls crap that started again this spring.
