The Tennessee Titans drafted Carnell Tate with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Throughout rookie minicamp, OTAs, minicamp, and training camp, Tate has shown why the Titans selected him with that pick. He's been called a veteran-minded rookie, he wants to learn the entire playbook from front-to-back, and he's already prepared to play whatever role he's asked to play in 2026.
After practice this week, quarterback Cam Ward sat down with NFL Network's Kurt Warner and Daniel Jeremiah, who asked him what his reaction was when Tate's name was said as the Titans' pick.
"I was in Nashville, I was at the house," Ward says. "I had it on and I seen who the (Arizona) Cardinals took right there. Then I seen it was another unbelievable playmaker at four, and man, I was smiling ear-to-ear when we got him. And he's been incredible. He's himself each and every day. I think the best thing about him is he's a people person, and then on the field, he's an elite wide receiver just for how young he is to come out of Ohio State."
Ward isn't wrong; Tate is among the younger players to enter the draft, although David Bailey (New York Jets) and Arvell Reese (New York Giants) are both 20, so Tate wasn't the youngest. Still, with Tate's history at Ohio State having to share snaps and still create production, he's already ahead of the curve for most players.
Even with sharing snaps at Ohio State, Tate scored 14 touchdowns over three seasons and never averaged less than 14 yards per catch. Having an impeccable drop rate (he dropped a total of five passes in his collegiate career, and had zero drops in 2025) certainly helps, plus his down-field vision and excellent route-running make him an easy target for any quarterback.
