Who it’s for: Golfers who typically shoot in the high 80s, 90s or 100s and want more long-game consistency

What you should know: The Quantum hybrids are designed to replace long irons and give golfers more height, forgiveness and distance. A redesigned sole and internal weighting help players launch shots more easily and use the club effectively from a variety of lies.

The Deep Dive: How often does a golfer who typically shoots in the low 90s step onto a par-3 tee and flush a 5-iron? Maybe once in a while, but not often enough to feel confident with that club in hand. From the fairway, staring at a bunker guarding the front of the green, is that same player eager to hit a long iron high enough to carry the sand and stop it close? Probably not, and that’s why hybrids have become some of the most important clubs for recreational golfers. With a wider sole, a larger hitting area and a lower center of gravity, hybrids make it far easier to hit the ball high and far.

With the Quantum line, Callaway set out to create hybrids that blend naturally with the rest of the family while helping golfers solve two persistent problems: achieving a reliable launch and producing predictable yardage gaps.

Each of the three Quantum hybrid models features a carbon fiber crown that removes weight from the top of the head, creating discretionary mass that designers can reposition elsewhere. Much of that weight has been moved into a large tungsten element that Callaway calls Speed Wave 2.0. The tungsten bar stretches from heel to toe behind the face, stabilizing the head through impact and promoting a high-launch, mid-spin flight that stops on greens instead of rolling through them. It also enhances performance on thin shots—a key benefit because many recreational players tend to top or hit long-iron and hybrid shots low on the face.

The Quantum hybrids are also built around an updated Step Sole design that allows the face to flex more efficiently and reduces turf drag. This should help golfers maintain speed through impact and achieve better launch conditions even when contact wanders toward the heel, toe or bottom of the face.

While most golfers who play these hybrids aren’t intentionally shaping shots, all three models come standard with a pair of interchangeable weights. Fitters and players can adjust the center of gravity location, fine-tune spin rate and influence ball flight to match their swing and preferred trajectory.

The Quantum Max hybrid (19, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33 degrees) has a mid-size shape that appeals to a wide range of players. The Quantum Max OS (18, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32 degrees) has a larger, more confidence-inspiring profile with fairway-wood-style shaping for golfers who prefer a bigger footprint.

For moderate and slower-swinging players, the Quantum Max Fast (22, 25, 28, 31, 34 degrees) is a lighter, higher-launching model designed to help golfers generate more clubhead speed and carry distance for improved overall yardage.
