With NFL training camps in full swing, it's "best shape of my life" season around the league. Generally, you could probably take any reported fitness gains with a grain of salt. (Because guys in the NFL know that they're supposed to have taken care of themselves in their off time as a prerequisite.) But not everyone.
Take Caleb Williams, for example.
In the summer after his breakout 2025 season, in which he led the Bears to the NFC North division title and their first playoff win in 15 years, Williams was eager to keep the momentum going during his personal offseason. Beyond getting more comfortable with his teammates and Ben Johnson's playbook, that entailed working on his health in a very strategic manner.
During his media availability at Bears training camp on Wednesday, Williams revealed he learned "how to eat" like a professional athlete focused on peak performance over the past several months. It was part of his concerted effort to trim down and build more muscle so the elusive quarterback could move better and "smoother" moving forward. In total, per Williams, his efforts here led to roughly 10-15 pounds of weight loss.
Please note that Williams is listed at 226 pounds on the Bears' official website, but that may be updated before the onset of the 2026 regular season:
This was an inspired decision by Williams. If he's going to become the MVP-caliber quarterback many believe he's capable of becoming, he doesn't have to just make strides with the Bears' offensive scheme and when he's between the lines. It had to happen with his fitness, too. Kudos to Williams for taking an important first step in a season that might soon become known as the one where he took the proverbial leap to superstardom.
Well, it's hardly an objective opinion, but in a survey with ESPN, anonymous NFL coaches and executives recently slotted the third-year Bears quarterback at No. 10 overall at his position. That is notably higher than Sam Darnold, Jayden Daniels, Jordan Love, Brock Purdy, and Jalen Hurts, among others.
