The Boston Red Sox made a six-player trade in the offseason to acquire Caleb Durbin from the Milwaukee Brewers, hoping he could replace Alex Bregman.

Durbin had a great rookie year, slashing .256/.334/.387 overall. In his final 96 games of the season, he slashed .270/.346/.415 with 10 home runs. He was a National League Rookie of the Year candidate, and it made sense as to why the Red Sox believed in him. However, in his first 48 games this year, he was hitting just .163 with one home run.

Fans were already upset that the team let Bregman walk, but Durbin's struggles made the move look even worse. However, Durbin has turned things around in a big way and is finally showing fans what the Red Sox saw in him. After spending two days on the bench and working at a private hitting facility, Durbin has looked like a different player.

In his last 12 games, coming immediately after spending two days on the bench, he has a .341/.348/.636 slash line. On Wednesday, he had two home runs, marking the first multi-homer game of his career. He has raised his batting average by 41 points in the last 12 games, all while playing solid defense.

Durbin will forever be compared to Bregman just because of how things went down. However, if he can continue to be a reliable hitter, he will be a staple at third base for years to come.
