For the first time since 2022, Calais Campbell was a member of the Ravens during mandatory minicamp practice at the Under Armour Performance Center. It didn't take long for the veteran to look comfortable again.

Campbell returned to a familiar environment this offseason, rejoining an organization where he enjoyed some of the most productive seasons of his career. Once practice concluded, he met with reporters and offered some insight into why he continues playing a game that has already given him more accomplishments than most players could ever dream of.

Calais Campbell's love of football remains, and so does his admiration for Anthony Weaver

So, what makes a man want to keep playing football long after most have given the game up? The answer was refreshingly simple. Calais Campbell is still in love with the game of football.

Campbell will turn 40 years old on September 1. For most players, that milestone would have arrived years after retirement. For Campbell, it marks another season preparing for NFL Sundays. His motivation isn't complicated. He enjoys the work and competition. He enjoys being around teammates and chasing victories.

That passion was evident as he spoke with reporters following practice. It's also one reason why Campbell has remained productive despite playing in an era when careers of this length are increasingly rare.

But his love for the game isn't the only thing that brought Campbell back. The veteran also made it clear that Ravens defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver played a significant role in his decision. In fact, Campbell went a step further. He described Weaver as probably his favorite coach he has played for.

Weaver was previously Campbell's defensive line coach for two seasons (2021-22), so that's a powerful endorsement coming from a player who has spent nearly two decades in the NFL and worked alongside countless coaches during his career.

The Ravens signed Campbell because they believe he can still help them on the field. His value, however, extends beyond sacks, tackles, and statistics. He brings leadership, experience, and credibility to a locker room with championship aspirations. Younger players naturally gravitate toward veterans who have seen everything the league has to offer, and few players can match Campbell's resume. As Baltimore continues preparing for another season, Campbell's presence feels significant for several reasons. The Ravens added a productive defender. Anthony Weaver reunited with a trusted veteran, and perhaps most importantly, one of the NFL's most respected players is still doing what he loves.

At an age when most careers are long over, Campbell continues proving that passion can be just as important as talent. That's one reason Baltimore is thrilled to have him back.
