SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners will enter their six-game homestand beginning Friday atop the American League West and in the driver's seat of their own destiny.

The Mariners will begin the six-game homestand with the first of a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks at 7:10 p.m. PT on Friday at T-Mobile Park.

The Diamondbacks will enter this series third in the National League West and as occupants of the top wild card spot in the National League.

Seattle, despite wrestling first place in the AL West from the Athletics earlier this week, still aren't at full strength. But two 2025 All-Stars currently on the shelf are taking the next steps in their respective recoveries.

Here's an overview of recent Mariners injury updates:

Cal Raleigh, C

The 2025 American League MVP finalist has been on the shelf since May 14 due to a right oblique strain he had been dealing with for days prior.

Raleigh has progressed quick in his recovery and is currently throwing up to 130 feet, per an update from Seattle general manager Justin Hollander on Friday.

Raleigh took 30 swings, 15 from the left and right side, off a tee at "80%" capacity, per Hollander.

The 2025 Home Run Derby champion will be back up with the team Saturday. And based on assessments from the training staff, Raleigh could be continuing his work with the team in Seattle rather than return to Arizona.

"Just want to build responsibly," Hollander said. "And make sure that when he cuts it loose 100% that he feels 100%. I don't have any more of a timeline than that. I'll probably know more than that a week from now. ... But I think the swings today were a good sign and he felt good after doing it."

Raleigh has slashed .161/.243/.317 with a .560 OPS in 41 games and has hit four doubles and seven home runs with 18 RBIs this season.

Brendan Donovan, INF/OF

The Mariners' top trade acquisition of the offseason is currently on his second stint on the IL due to a left groin strain related to a sports hernia surgery he underwent in the offseason.

Donovan was placed on the IL for the second time this year May 17 (retroactive to May 16). He was previously on the shelf from April 18-May 8.

According to Hollander, Donovan is currently progressing to "pain-free" baseball activities and running on an AlterG, which is a weightless treadmill.

Donovan will continue to run on the treadmill the "next couple days" per Hollander. After that, he'll commence a running progression which will build up his straight-line running with no lateral movements.

He'll check in with trainers back in Seattle when the team goes back on the road. There is also no timeline currently for his return.

Raleigh and Donovan will "for sure" go on rehab assignments when they're ready to do so, per Hollander.

"When you're dealing with players in general, you want to treat the patient, not just the diagnosis," Hollander said. "And I think the reason that we're being extra cautious with these guys is — I think if we put a date on the calendar and say they're going to go on a rehab assignment on this day, they will go on the rehab assignment on that day, whether they're actually feeling good enough to do it or not. So, we're just kind of assessing day-to-day with how they're actually doing."

Donovan is slashing .274/.386/.452 with an .838 OPS and has hit four doubles, a triple and three home runs with eight RBIs in 25 games.

Other notes

-- Right-handed reliever Carlos Vargas (right lat strain) is set to undergo a repeat MRI on Friday. If things go well with the injury, he'll begin a throwing program. Vargas has been out the entire season with his current injury

-- INF/OF Miles Mastrobuoni (right calf strain) is currently on a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers. Mastrobuoni is yet to make his major league debut this season. He was on a rehab assignment with Triple-A earlier in the year before a setback led to him being moved from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL and restarting his assignment.

-- Infielder Will Wilson (left thumb fracture) will begin a rehab assignment in the next week.

-- Infielder Brock Rodden (No. 18 team prospect per MLB Pipeline) was placed on the 7-day injured list May 26. According to Hollander, Rodden is dealing with a hamstring strain.

Per Hollander, the injury is not significant.

"I would imagine, right now, it's something like the 7-to-14-day range," Hollander said. "It's not a six-week (injury) or anything like that."

Rodden has slashed .263/.321/.439 with a .760 OPS and has hit 14 doubles and seven home runs with 38 RBIs in 51 games in Triple-A this season.
