Alex Lodise hits second in the Florida State baseball lineup; despite that, he recorded three RBI in the first inning of Tuesday's 19-0 run-rule win over South Florida.
The No. 8 Seminoles (29-7) offense exploded for 19 runs, kickstarted by a seven-run first inning, with Lodise's RBI double and two RBI single accounting for the first and last runs of the inning.
Lodise finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBI, with Cal Fisher the only Seminole with more RBI, scoring four on a 2-for-3 night.
FSU scored at least one run in six of the seven innings played, with the third the only scoreless one. The 19 total runs are the most since the 17-9 win over Notre Dame and the second most this season, only trailing the 24 scored against Penn.
With head coach Link Jarrett challenging his team to have better pitch recognition, the Seminoles have responded with 52 hits in four games, including 20 against USF, with four extra base hits.
Gage Harrelson led off the first inning with a triple. He quickly scored on the Lodise double, and the Seminoles added five more hits and three more base runners, two via walks and one fielder's choice, in the half inning.
Fisher knocked in a pair of RBIs with a bases-loaded single, and after a Chase Williams single, Brody DeLamielleure scored a run on a fielder's choice. Hunter Carns scored one on a single before Lodise came back up to the plate and hit a two RBI single.
C. Williams hit an RBI single in the second and Fisher hit his fifth home run of the season with a ball hit off the top of the left field scoreboard. In the fifth, a trio of bases-loaded singles scored four runs, with Max Williams and Bailey both recording one before a two RBI single from Drew Faurot.
A C. Williams RBI single set up Noah Sheffield to score a run on a fielder's choice. Another pair of singles from Nathan Cmyela and Carter McCulley scored two more to cap off the eight-run inning.
The Seminoles added one more in the sixth on a fielder's choice hit by Sheffield.
Payton Manca started and earned the win (2-1) for the Seminoles. He threw four scoreless innings with four strikeouts and only two hits surrendered. His breaking ball forced a lot of weak contact and a high volume of missed swings.
He was replaced by Ben Barrett, who struck out six of the seven batters he faced. Jacob Marlowe closed out on the mound with a scoreless seventh inning.
FSU has a quick turnaround with its series against Virgina beginning on Thursday.
