It’s a big night for the Indiana Fever and the WNBA as a whole, as superstar guard Caitlin Clark is returning to action after working her way back from an injury.

Clark left the June 24 game against the Phoenix Mercury early due to a back injury and hasn’t played in a game since. She has missed two games in total, both of which the Fever won.

Ahead of her first game back on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Sparks, we got a look at Clark’s pregame fit.

Head coach Stephanie White confirmed that Caitlin Clark would play against the Sparks on Wednesday night, so she’ll definitely be in the lineup.

However, as Clark told reporters on Tuesday during practice, she is likely to be on a minutes restriction and could see the floor for about 20 minutes in total. Clark is averaging 30.8 minutes per game this season.

“Just getting back into it, I would assume I’d be on a minutes restriction, hopefully a little bit over 20 (minutes) if I’m able to go, and I feel like I will be if practice goes well,” Clark said on Tuesday.

Clark added that she is unlikely to play on Thursday, when the Fever play the second game of a back-to-back against the Mercury.

The Fever head coach has since confirmed Clark will indeed sit out for that contest.

No Caitlin Clark vs. Alyssa Thomas rematch

Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas (25) scrambles to get up over Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, during a game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Phoenix Mercury defeated the Indiana Fever, 111-109.

WNBA fans no doubt had the game between the Mercury and Fever circled on their calendar.

That’s because Thomas was responsible for multiple cheap shots on Clark back on June 24, the same game Clark left early with an injury.

Thomas was ultimately suspended for one game, a decision Clark said she agreed with.

“I did think it was a flagrant foul and our reffing just needs to be better,” Clark said, per Tony East of Forbes Sports. “Obviously the refs are in a really difficult spot. It’s one of the hardest jobs in the world in my opinion is to make calls.”

Along with her criticism of the WNBA’s officiating, Clark was also critical of the league itself for its failure to adequately protect its players, which is a common complaint among her supporters.

“It’s kind of been a discussion for three years now and I really think we need to do a better job protecting the people in this league and you know obviously I’ve been involved in a few of those plays but there has been plenty of others across the league that haven’t got called,” Clark added.

With Clark set to sit out on Thursday night, we won’t see her and Thomas on the same floor again until 2027, barring the Fever and Mercury meeting in the playoffs.
