Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever picked up one of their biggest wins of the young WNBA season on Thursday night, defeating the Atlanta Dream 83-71 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

But according to Clark, the toughest opponent she faced all evening wasn't wearing a Dream jersey. It was a cup of applesauce.

After helping Indiana pull away in the second half, Clark revealed a surprising reason for her uneven start to the game. The Fever star explained that a pregame snack didn't agree with her, creating an uncomfortable situation that lingered into the opening half.

"I had some bad applesauce before the game," Clark told reporters afterward. "I found a trash can, thank God."

The candid admission immediately became one of the more memorable postgame moments of the season and offered a humorous explanation for why Clark appeared out of rhythm early.

A much different player after halftime

While Clark wasn't at her sharpest during stretches of the first half, she looked noticeably more energized after the break.

Indiana's offense found another gear in the final two quarters, and Clark helped orchestrate the attack as the Fever gradually built separation against an Atlanta team that entered the night among the WNBA's top contenders.

The win continued a strong stretch for Indiana, which has spent the opening weeks of the season proving it belongs in the championship conversation.

Fever overcome another challenge

Every long season comes with unexpected obstacles. Most teams prepare for injuries, difficult travel schedules and tough opponents. Very few have to account for rogue applesauce.

Fortunately for the Fever, Clark was able to laugh about the situation afterward. More importantly, she was able to move past it during the game and help Indiana secure a statement victory over one of the league's hottest teams.

The result gave the Fever another quality win and reinforced just how dangerous they can be when Clark is directing the offense.

Clark's honesty creates another viral moment

One reason Clark continues to connect with fans is her willingness to be herself. Rather than offering a generic answer about adjustments or game plans, she provided the unfiltered truth behind her slow start. The story quickly added a lighthearted twist to an otherwise important night for Indiana.

In the end, Clark and the Fever got exactly what they wanted: another win in the standings.

The applesauce, however, might not be making a return appearance anytime soon.
