Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark was upset with the officials following Wednesday’s game against the Golden State Valkyries.
Clark was unhappy about a no-call that occurred during the second quarter of the Fever’s 88-75 loss.
During the play, Clark drove past her defender, got to the basket and hit an off-balance layup as a defender made contact with her. You can check out the play here.
The former Iowa star was knocked to the ground and was clearly limping as she made her way back on defense. After the next whistle, Clark screamed at the referee who had been in position but did not call the foul. She punctuated her frustration by punching the air.
Clark was asked about the play after the game.
“I got kneed right in the quad. Like, that hurts. Like, the ref can’t miss that,” she said. “Then I have to play with a contusion in my leg the rest of the game.
“Like, it’s ridiculous. You can’t miss calls like that.”
Clark relayed that the referee told her she had initiated the contact with the defender.
“Which is fine, but you can’t knee me in the leg and knock me over,” Clark said.
Fever coach Stephanie White was also asked about the play.
“They said Caitlin initiated the contact. That’s all they said. She seems to always be initiating the contact,” White said sarcastically.
Clark had 13 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists in the loss. She connected on only 4 of 14 shots and was 1 for 8 from 3-point range.
