The Indiana Fever are excited to open their season on May 10 with superstar point guard Caitlin Clark fully healthy. After shaking off some rust in her first preseason game, Clark dominated in limited minutes in each of the Fever’s final two games of the preseason.
Now, Indiana has turned its attention to the regular season, which it hopes will culminate with a deep playoff run. Throughout the campaign, Clark and the Fever know that her enormous star power and celebrity will contribute to immense amounts of scrutiny into every tiny detail and decision, and it has already begun.
On Monday, footage from practice showed Clark donning a leg sleeve and a backwards practice jersey.
Fans on social media were concerned that the leg sleeve was related to a potential injury.
“Hoping this is just the new medical team and trainers taking precautions. Seriously, can’t take another season of injuries. I’m already not excited about this season like I was last season. I’m in the wait and see mode,” one fan wrote on X.
“I have too much ptsd because why did this just stress me out????” another fan added.
“Well, hopefully just for fun and not for some injury bug,” one fan added.
“I feel good.”
Clark did have an injury scare during the preseason after an awkward landing, but Clark head coach Stephanie White downplayed the severity of the situation.
“I feel good. I just landed on my kneecap really hard,” Clark said, via ESPN. “I know there’s a committee of people that really wanted them [the refs] to start calling things, and I thought they did a great job of that. Honestly, I thought the refs were great, and it’s preseason, so you’re probably going to see more fouls called. I expect that number to drop. But I think overall, it’s going to improve the product.”
“We had planned for her to come out about that time anyway,” coach Stephanie White said. “It was just an extra precaution getting her out in that moment, but the plan was for her to start the third quarter and then get her out quickly.”
The Fever open the season on May 10 against the Dallas Wings.
