With a Super Bowl-caliber roster already in hand, the Los Angeles Rams could have bolstered their team with an instant-impact player in the draft. Instead, they turned their attention to the future, taking quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick.

While some fans have questioned Les Snead and Sean McVay for that selection, Byron Young has full trust in the Rams’ brass. In an interview with DJ Siddiqi of R.org, Young called Simpson “a good quarterback” and a “great kid,” which is how a lot of people seem to feel about him.

Young also said that the Rams added “some great players” in the draft and no matter where they were picked, they’re going to motivate the veterans already on the team.

“I think he’s a good quarterback, he’s a great kid,” Young said of Simpson. “With the front office, trusting everything that they do is in the best interest of this team. I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes. We got some great players, got some D-linemen, got some tight ends. Got some receivers in there. I can’t wait to see what these guys bring to this. I have no doubt that these guys will come in, definitely help motivate you regardless of what pick they are.”

The Rams only added one player to the defensive side of the ball in the draft, and it was with their last pick in the seventh round. There, they took nose tackle Tim Keenan III with the 232nd overall pick, giving Chris Shula another defensive lineman to deploy.

It’s not a class that’s likely to have an immediate impact in 2026. However, for the long-term outlook, this group of rookies will help the Rams sustain success beyond this season – and hopefully, after Matthew Stafford retires.
