You could tell based on what Graves said after the draft that they would not pursue MRob very hard. Basicly they got their 2 WRs in the draft that they were hoping for so, according to Graves, the Cards don't need a WR.

Personally, I think it's a mistake. I DO like the idea of a Veteran WR with a good work ethic leading by example for the younger players. Also, almost all rookie WRs have a very hard 1st year. Most are not ready for the speed and strength of the players and few contribute much the 1st year.

So, it's really looking like Graves considers 2003 a "training" season where the Cards are more concerned with getting playing time for the youngsters than really worring about winning games. Now, don't get me wrong, with the players they have, the Cards will do their best to win games, but when the choice is get a aging veteran or use the roster spot to develop a young player, the young player is going to make the team.

graves did mention that we would keep 5 receivers..but I think we will keep at least 6...
Based on reality, gilmore, mcaddley, foster and the 2 rookies are locks to make the roster - barring injury. Young...yes..but I think the coaching staff is going to keep these 5 (at least). This leaves one spot to be battled for by basically kasper and savage (most likely). The 6th spot would probably be either practice squad or inactive for most games.

I am not so pissed about losing out on MR..I will be extremely pissed off by training camp if we have not done one of the following:

1. Trade or sign a defensive tackle who could possibly start.
2. Trade or sign a cornerback who could be our 5th defensive back and has experience in the NFL.

I think it is a numbers game at defensive end (i.e. numbers in that we have too many young guys) and we will not sign a veteran. Pace, Johnson, KVB and Wakefield will make the roster. Alton Moore and Kenny King will get every chance to make the roster... How many ends will we have on the roster - 5 or 6?

No its not a bold faced lie. All I saw was the top post of page 2, where Jim O. had posted your quote, in retrospect.... I assumed he had posted your entire quote. That's all I saw.

I told you that. I don't lie.
I have no reason to.

Get a life!!!

Go do your name calling somewhere else. I'm not impressed.

I fully expect the Cards to go into the season with MINIMUM 6 receivers on the roster.

At the moment my guess would be: Gilmore, McAddley, Foster, Kasper, Johnson , & Boldin.

Kasper is still a good versatile athlete and is a special teams player too. I also think special teams play was a big factor in getting Foster.

I see Poole, Soliday, and the rest probably the odd men out.

I don't know that I entirely agree with the concept that the Cards are writing this year off as primarily a "training" year.

There's some nice talent there.
That, and as I said before, I don't think the passing game is going to be as prominent for a while as it may have been in the past.
I expect a power running, ball and clock controlling game to be featured. I think they most likely will (especially early in the season) go to more of a vertical, stretch the field game to try to counter stacking the box against the running game.

We, as Card fans are not used to having a solid running game to fall back on...so evidently that concept is foreign to some.

Barring injury again, this should be an awesome running game team this year.

PS...I would also guess that maybe 1 rookie WR will make the practice squad. I don't think Poole or Soliday are eligble for that anymore are they?

I'll believe it when I see it. Considering our WR have never proven anything, the only way this team is a power running team and an awesome one at that is if two of those guys end up having hge breakout years - otherwise we will be looking at our slowed down hall-of-famer trying to dodge 8 tacklers.

Cheesebeef,, I personally cannot afford to lose $250 dollars so will make no bet of that size unless it is an absolute ssure thing. Assuming all players are healthy and play to expectations then I think being 2-5 or better is not unreasonable, however since we do play our final pre-season game AT MINNESOTA the possibilities for injurys are high.

However I would be more then happy to bet ya a beer that the Cards will be better then 2-5 by week 7, here is my predictions for the first 7 games:

@ Detroit - Win
Vs Seattle - Win
Vs Green bay - Loss
@ St. Louis - Loss
@ Dallas - Win
Vs Baltimore - Loss
Vs San Francisco - Loss

So 3-4 is my prediction come week 7.

My main hope is to somehow be 6-7 going into the final 3 weeks of the season, and then sweeping Carolina, Seattle and Minnesota to end up 9-7 and wildcard for the playoffs!

Only time will tell. If Emmitt does falter, you KNOW Shipps spikes will be all over his back.

I don't want cheesebeef's money under any condition. Really, no other poster wallows in misery as much as he does. Nobody else seems to HOPE the Cardinals are losers again.

Now, in this thread, he's harassing Jim Omohundro and gleefully predicting another bad year.

Will we hear from him if the Cards are bad? Guaranteed. Because that's what he does - revel in the Cards' failures.

I've had enough for a while. cheesebeef, go find another board to polute.

I'll make you the beer bet - but it's gotta be straight up - the team that goes into the season is their team - no one on this team is so much above others to say injuries hurt them - and you know what every team has injuries - good teams can play above them - 2-5 or worse is the bet - you game?

I see your prediction for 'WIN' against Seattle. I really think they are going to be a tough team this year. No team had a better offense the last couple games of the season with Hasslebeck coming on strong. Plus with Rhodes as DC - they will be a TOUGH team.

Add to that the fact that Holmgren is now more a coach than a GM and his focus will be more on winning games than on personnel matters, I think you could be right. They could be quite improved. Rhodes is a decent DC but I have never been enamored with him. He will have a tough time improving that defense...especially run defense but if they can somehow stop the run, they now look like they have a better than average pass defense unit.

NFC West could be a tough division this year.

I wouldn't call it harassment. At least I don't think of it that way.

I just think that some folks on this board like to stir the pot because it is the easiest thing to do. The Cardinals have not been successful in the past and making fun of and bagging on most EVERY move is the safe thing to do. It makes them appear smart.

i agree they will be a tough team, but I also believe that as a team we were better then they were last year, and I thing our addition/subtractions is no worse then thier addition/subtractions so I think that we are still the better team. Course only think we are better then a couple of teams over all, Seattle, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Detroit and Carolina. Which puts us ranked 24 out of 32 which still isnt very good. Luckily we get to play Seattle, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit and Carolina this year. :)

Wow.....no more Cheesebeef..:(

Though he was very negative, and if you didn't agree with him you were using rose colored glasses, I still liked him.

But his negativity was a little too overbearing...

jim and skorp, i think you misunderstand those of us that fall into the "darkside" category. we do not "revel" in the cardinals failures, but, rather, we use sarcasm and disgust to vent. if there's one thing cards fans should recognize it's venting. it saddens me that we may now be banned for this. if beef is banned i'm assuming i'm next to follow. that sucks. what beef did with jim was hardly "harassment." i'm glad that jim recognizes that. i recognize that jim is a huge feather in the cap of this board, but skorp i'd hope that you didn't start banning people in the hopes of sheltering jim O. he's a big boy and i'm sure he's capable of defending himself (which he did) quite capably. this is a sad day if the 'beef is actually banned.
