LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — In what was both of their opening games for the preseason, it was the Bengals who walked with the win defeating the Lions, 16-14.
Joe Burrow was the man in the backfield to open the night against Detroit, getting sacked on the opening drive. After just one sequence, that would be it for QB1 on the field tonight. The franchise quarterback finished with 39-yards going 5-of-6.
First points of the season came on a 56-yard field goal from Evan McPherson, the kicker going 3-for-3 on FG's for the night.
Joe Flacco came in to back up Burrow, finding Jack Endries on the short pass to put up six on the board. Flacco threw for one touchdown and 51-yards on five completions. Josh Johnson saw the most snaps on the evening completing 10-of-19 for 84-yards.
The most frequently targeted guy in the Bengals first time out was Dohnte Meyers collecting 29-yards on three receptions. Close second was Colbie Young for 28-yards on two catches and 25-yards on three receptions for Endries.
Its run game was led by Kendall Milton rushing for 21 yards on nine carries, followed by Chase Brown for 16-yards on five. As a whole Cincy totaled 256-yards on offense.
Bengals defense allowed just 274-yards of total offense coming away with two interceptions (courtesy Russ Yeast and Jordan Battle) and 2.0 sacks combined from Kris Jenkins Jr., Landon Robinson and Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. As a whole its defense not allowing the Lions to find the endzone until the final 90 seconds of regulation.
Cincinnati now turns its attention to its next preseason game Saturday, August 22nd hosting the Bears at Paycor Stadium.
