LOWELL— A lot of people would classify No. 14 Bishop Feehan boys basketball's MIAA Division 1 title run as an underdog story.

Brody Bumila, however, is not one of those people. Nor are his Shamrock teammates.

"We always thought we were going to win it," Bumila said. "There was a retreat for Feehan this weekend and I remember telling our campus ministry leader (Jason Deramo) in October 'we're making the state championship, so don't even bother writing my name down.'"

The senior captain, center and University of Texas baseball commit made sure those words rang true. Putting together one of the best individual tournament runs in MIAA history, while taking down four of the top six seeded teams on the way, Bumila and the Shamrocks capped it off with a 66-63 win over No. 1 Central Catholic on Sunday, March 15, for the Attleboro-based program's first-ever boys basketball state title.

"This is one of the best feelings ever," Bumila, who led the way for Feehan with 36 points, said. "It's not just me. It's the team, it's the school and the entire Bishop Feehan community. It means everything."

The Raiders came out of the gates hot, led once again by Brandeis-bound senior Javi Lopez, who had 30 points including six 3-pointers. The Shamrocks trailed the entire first half, but made sure the top seed felt their presence.

Coming out down four at the half, Feehan found its groove to start the third quarter, with Kalen Baltazar tying it with a layup then a Phelan Duffy layup putting the Shamrocks up for the first time.

It was also the last lead change of the night, with Feehan never relinquishing the advantage.

For Bumila, as much attention as he's received, that shows just how much of a team effort this title run was.

"We were all bonded as a team so well," Bumila said. "Every single guy from the end of the bench to me and (Jake) Weber (who had 13 points), we're all really good friends... I might be the top scorer, but they're also doing the stuff to win a state championship."

For his teammates, having a 6-foot-9 center to rely on makes that job easier.

"Give him the ball and he'll do his job," Weber said.

While Bumila said the end of his basketball career hasn't truly sunk in yet, he's ready to get back out on the mound for the Shamrocks baseball team and end his high school career lifting one more state title.

"From the start of the year, me and Weber were saying we're going to win a good state championship in basketball and then run it back in baseball," Bumila said.

Regardless of whatever happens though, Bumila and the Shamrocks will never forget this title run.

"I can't wait to see that 2026 banner up in the rafters every time I walk into Bishop Feehan High School,' Bumila said.
