AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF)- It’s basketball in the month of March, which means it’s that time of year for high school basketball teams inching closer to playing for a state title.
The Butler Boys basketball team are the 2A defending state champions, they hosted Columbia. De’Cori Fleming exploded for a team high 34 points, to propel them to a 66-43 victory.
“The message of this whole run so far has been, just be the best version of us. As a coach, it’s an advantage when your team can just be themselves as long as they have the best version, then you have a chance to win the game,” said Butler head coach Chaz Clark.
“When you don’t have to do too much or nothing spectacular, or nothing too grand, it helps as a coach, especially having a wonderful coaching staff.”
The Bulldogs will face KIPP Atlanta Collegiate in Douglasville on March 6.
Now, over to Cross Creek, the Razorbacks faced off against a familiar opponent in the Baldwin Braves, a region foe. They also played in front of a max capacity, sold out crowd.
Frashad Tisby led the team in scoring with 17 points. Dontrell Jackson and Derrick Shine both chipped in with 11 points. Cross Creek pulled out the 59-52 win. They will play in the Final Four against E Hall in Douglasville on March 7.
