Many thought the seventh-seeded Golden State Warriors had an easy road to the second round of the NBA playoffs after they took a 3-1 series lead over the No. 2 seed Houston Rockets.
However, back-to-back losses set up Sunday’s win-or-go-home Game 7 on the road in a hostile environment at the Toyota Center.
With their backs against the wall, the Warriors knew they needed something radical to halt Houston’s momentum following Friday’s 115-107 loss at home in Game 6.
And that’s where the team’s biggest leaders—Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler—stepped up.
According to Warriors guard Buddy Hield, the trio of stars led a player’s meeting once the team touched down in Houston ahead of Game 7 on Sunday that served as a get-your-mind-right moment for himself and the rest of the team.

“Yesterday when we got to Houston, we had a very emotional meeting led by Draymond, Steph, and Jimmy,” Hield told the “Inside the NBA” crew after Sunday’s 103-89 Game 7 win.
“From then, I was locked in and just kept my spirit together and the meeting we had just gave everybody chills and we know when it’s time to go to battle, we know what that means. The meeting was well-needed.”
Whatever was said in that meeting, it sure resonated with Hield specifically.
The 32-year-old went off for a game-high 33 points along with three rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal in 37 minutes in a moment of redemption for Hield after scoring zero points in just 17 minutes in Game 6.
It was the most points Hield has scored in any game this season, and it’s the most he’s scored since a 36-point outburst against the Milwaukee Bucks back in February 2022.
The Warriors will now face the sixth-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the playoffs. Game 1 tips off Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. ET in Minnesota.
