The Bucs saw their 2025 backup quarterback sign with the Detroit Lions in Teddy Bridgewater. Thus, the team had to be on the lookout for a new backup for Baker Mayfield, and they found one in someone who has started games and won them.

The Bucs came to an agreement with former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Jake Browning on a one-year deal. They did not disclose any financial terms in the deal that was first reported by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Browning will also be joined in the quarterback room by Connor Bazelak, who signed with the team as a UDFA last year.

Browning has played in a total of 17 games in his seven seasons in the NFL. He started 10 of those games and has a record of 4-6 with all of those starts coming when he was a part of the Bengals. He has a completion percentage of 68.5%, passed for 2,707 yards, and 18 touchdowns to 15 interceptions.

The team should not need to draft a quarterback now, but bringing in another UDFA to challenge Bazelak could be considered.
