The 2026 NFL Draft will take place in Pittsburgh this month, a city where the Bucs could select the next star they add to their roster in hopes of righting the proverbial ship. Before then, though, there will be plenty of speculation and buildup for the team and who they may add to the roster through the draft. Thankfully, we now have some added context for players now that the scouting combine has come and gone.
CBS Sports' Garrett Podell recently released the latest 2026 NFL mock draft of the cycle, which has the team going in the defensive direction once again. In a pick that seems to be becoming more and more unlikely, the Bucs land Miami edge rusher Akheem Mesidor.
Podell explains the Mesidor pick, writing, "Akheem Mesidor, who will turn 25 this year, is a plug-and-play contributor. He ranked top five nationally in sacks (12.5, tied for third in the FBS), tackles for loss (17.5, tied for fifth) and quarterback pressures (67, tied for fourth) in 2025 opposite Reuben Bain at Miami. The Buccaneers could easily reclaim the NFC South crown in 2026 after the Carolina Panthers ended their four-year division title streak in 2025, and Mesidor will give Tampa Bay some much-needed pass production."
Mesidor is a popular pick for the Bucs as they look to solve their edge rusher dilemma. It helps that he is an older prospect at 25 years old, but it also makes things interesting as he is what he is most likely to be as a player. Lots to consider with him on both sides of the proverbial coin.
