The first wave of NFL free agency has come and gone, and teams across the league are beginning to get early evaluations on how their offseason moves stack up. For the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the results have been mixed according to one national outlet.
CBS Sports analyst Tyler Sullivan recently graded each team’s performance in 2026 free agency, and the Buccaneers received a C- grade in his breakdown of the league’s offseason activity. Sullivan pointed to several roster changes that have significantly reshaped Tampa Bay’s outlook heading into the 2026 season.
Among the most notable developments in this free agency period so far was the departure of longtime wide receiver Mike Evans, along with cornerback Jamel Dean. According to Sullivan, losing both players leaves major voids on offense and defense that will not be easy to replace. Tampa Bay’s secondary was already viewed as a concern, and Dean’s exit only adds more uncertainty to that position group.
On the flip side, the Buccaneers did bring in linebacker Alex Anzalone and running back Kenneth Gainwell, two additions Sullivan viewed as positives for the roster. Tampa Bay also managed to retain tight end Cade Otton, keeping a piece of the offense in place.
Still, Sullivan noted that Tampa Bay may need younger players like Emeka Egbuka and Jalen McMillan to take on larger roles while the team hopes for a healthy season from Chris Godwin as the offense adjusts.
