I haven't watched every single interview about Lamar Jackson but stumbled across this one with Bruce Gradkowski talking about him. When I thought about it, it seems that most(every?) other advocate for Jackson that I've seen has been black. Does the media do this on purpose? It seems to boil down to the guys on his side saying to forget about the fundamental shortcomings and just put the ball in his hands and he'll make something happen. The guys against him say that his fundamentals will hold him back and are a reason he won't make it in the long run.
In this particular segment, one guy brought up a good point though. Since Jackson is so often being compared to Michael Vick, and is being touted by Vick himself as better at this stage of their careers, why isn't LJ being talked about as a potential 1st overall selection?

Jackson does need Pro Coaching as do every QB in the draft.That said Darnold and Rosen seem to be most Pro-ready QBs available.having the top pick IMHO means your pick has to come in and start immediately and make a big impact or you will be viewed as a bust.Not many teams what to take that risk of having whoever #1 pick not working out immediately.Jackson is not ready to jump right into the fire immediately IMO.I think he needs time to refine his game.With Lamar Jackson i think next season and beyond.I think he will play some this year in backup or mop up duty to get his feet wet.
It all comes down to making the so-called "safer" pick or taking a chance on getting a electric playmaker a year down the road.I could be wrong but that`s the way i see it.Another thing in Jackson favor is the fact that he does recognize he has flaws and is willing to work on those flaws.The fact that he is being viewed as hardheaded or stubborn because he refuses to even workout at RB or WR just is pure trashtalk by talking heads IMHO.You don`t see Josh Allen being asked to workout at TE do you?

I will say this, if the Cardinals draft Lamar Jackson I will be very excited about the pick. I would even fully support moving up a few rounds to secure him because I think the kid is very special

I think the interviews are critical for whomever the Cards pick at qb. It's one position that you just can't go by looking only at the game tape.

What's so fascinating and funky about this draft, there are so many quarterback prospects which could be great. Might be Darnold but what if it's Jackson or even Rudolph... there is going to be a lot regret for some teams after this one, for picking or not picking a guy lol
I think you are right, AZ, and it could be even more so this year than others. I mean, prospects like Josh Rosen and Baker Mayfield are by all accounts a bit controversial, and the opinions on them are probably divided, maybe even internally in any team’s war room. You could argue that those two might be the best quarterback prospects in the entire draft class, yet if the decision makers are not completely satisfied after interviewing them, it probably won’t matter.
From everything I have read, heard and seen, everyone should be rather satisfied and safe with the attitude and demeanor of Darnold, Rudolph and Josh Allen, but I thinks those other two are highly fascinating cases from that standpoint.

Man you must be involved in zero hiring scenarios. I do a ton of hiring. For a myriad of roles. Do you know what would turn me off immediately to a prospect? Them saying “no” to something I requested (like running a 40) or making it unduly difficult for me to conduct my due diligence on them (like difficulty getting meetings or interviews). Know why? Because (a) it shows you don’t value my opportunity, time or opinion; and worse (b) this is a job interview - when you are supposed to be on your BEST BEHAVIOR to impress me. I would expect you to refuse a future request I make of you as your employer as a result of your actions. And that not only impacts your performance but potentially the culture of my organization.
I’ve made the mistake of overlooking these things due to pure talent Inc the past. And every single time that person has a shelf life in my organization. There’s some short term gain but usually a mess afterwards. So we don’t hire those people anymore.
No one is bigger than the hame, team, or draft process.
And all this is coming from a LJ FAN. I’ve been on his bandwagon since day one. But the latest leaves big question marks all over him for me.
^ I had a guy come in for an interview in flip flops, shorts, & a tank top. It was a short interview.

The only QB who had major success out of Vick's class was Drew Brees who was deemed 'too short' and saw his draft value drop to #32 in the first to San Diego.
Quincy Carter was taken in the 2nd by the Cowpies and was with them for 3 years. Was given a chance to be the franchise QB when he started 16 games in 2003 with blah results.
Down the draft order was AJ Feeley who had a brief run.

I've made this same argument concerning players coming out in the draft. Big red flag when they want to set the framework for meetings, what they will do instead of what every candidate has to do. I hate to wear a tie---but when I would go for a meeting with a potential client I made sure to find out what their expected dress code was and would put on the damn color tie that the owner/CEO demanded.
I worked my way through college as an assistant mgr. at a non-union full-service restaurant. I would ask potential new hires if they would be willing to bus tables, wash dishes, etc, if we really got busy and their station was in good shape. I'd have people applying for a short-order cook position, waitress, etc who would flat out say "No, they were strictly a cook or strictly a waitress, etc." The only answer the owner would accept was , "I'll do whatever it takes to serve the customer/keep the place going, etc" Guess my answer when I first interviewed at the place as a dishwasher---that got me hired and promoted thru the ranks to assistant mgr (just like Dwight Schruete).

We've got dual-thread going on right now regarding LJ, here and on the thread discussing the Wonderlic. Forgive me it I dual post comments.
Every player coming out in the draft is getting sliced-and-diced and nitpicked over every aspect of their game and their personality---it is not just a hen-pecking party attacking LJ. He just happens to be your guy and it sure must be annoying to see him getting shoved under the fan-base and talking head microscope. It is a big part of what happens in the off-season whereby we get to play GM and HC and media reporter all rolled-into one. Plenty of other players are getting the same autopsy.
LJ refused to run at the combine stating that he doesn't want to convert from QB to another position (WR as suggested by Bill Polian). Fair enough. He was going to run at his pro-day and didn't. He needs to show his stuff that sets him apart from the other QBS. A major part of what he has to offer is his ability to break a big play with his running speed. By not putting that ability on display and shining above the other QBs, he is doing a disservice to himself. Josh Allen is not being asked to try out at TE---he doesn't have the speed. If a team takes him and he falls flat, don't be surprised if he goes the Logan Thomas route and attempts to learn the position to stay in the NFL.
LJ has to play to job interview process the way his potential employers have it set up. He's stepping out on non-conformist thin ice trying to cross over a very conformist lake.
His Wonderlic score is troublesome. A 13 is one of the lowest scores by a QB---EVER. The only 'name' QB who had a long career with a lower Wonderlic was Jeff George---a guy with a cannon arm and a 'non-conformist' personality. I took an online version of the Wonderlic. I did not even look at the questions but simply picked choice #1 for every question. With 50 question and 4 choices, by sheer chance this should get you a 12-to-15 depending upon how the questions are ordered. On one test, I got a 20 by simply guessing. 13 is probably guessing.

On the other thread covering the Wonderlic, I wondered if LJ has some sort of reading or learning disability that would have him in such Wonderlic trouble. Teams need to sit down with him and discuss the issue or put him up at the chalk board and have him diagram plays out of the playbook, etc. But. . . he is apparently refusing interviews.
Wish him the best---he just needs one team to roll the dice. If he wants to really play QB, he better play the NFL Interview process first.

I am not too concerned about Jackson's accuracy issues. One thing I looked at was his touchdown to interception ratio and it was not far off from Darnold or Rosen... then add in WRs who cannot catch or run a simple route while the OL is begging him to just run lol

Right...so my point was, just because Vick went #1 overall and Jackson is being compared to him, but supposedly better, doesn't necessarily mean Jackson should be #1 overall...Vick didn't have other 1st round talent QB's in his draft...Who knows, Jackson could have easily been #1 in Vick's draft class...and Vick could easily not have been a 1st rounder this year, with all of the QB talent.
