The Brooklyn Nets made a number of moves during this season's trade deadline, but the biggest move they made was releasing guard Cam Thomas after being unable to find a trade partner for him. Brooklyn and Thomas seemed to have a contentious relationship after this past offseason given that both sides weren't able to come to terms on a long-term contract extension. Thomas had some thoughts on his mind.

During his interview with Stefan Bondy of the New York Post, Thomas explained that part of the reason that his relationship with the Nets was irreparable was due to the team's lack of belief in him and his future. Thomas also said that the franchise's lack of belief in him extended to virtually any player, implying that Brooklyn is not loyal to the players that it brings in.

After Thomas was released by the Nets, he signed with the Milwaukee Bucks once he cleared waivers. Since arriving in Milwaukee, Thomas seems to have found a team that will allow him to be the best version of himself, at least in his eyes. Thomas has expressed how happy he is with the Bucks and how he felt that all of his new teammates and coaching staff embraced him from the beginning.

Thomas, 24, seemed to be on the verge of establishing himself as a quality starting guard after he averaged 22.9 points and 3.1 assists per game from 2022-23 to 2023-24. However, this past summer showed that Thomas did not have the kind of market he was expecting as no other team proposed an offer sheet to him as a restricted free-agent, allowing the Nets to extend to him two different contract options depending on his future goals.

Thomas rejected both of those offers in lieu of accepting his $6 million qualifying offer (QO), granting him a full no-trade clause and allowing him to be an unrestricted free-agent after the 2025-26 season concludes. Whether or not the Nets are the kind of franchise that isn't loyal to their players is left to be seen given that Thomas is the only notable former player to express that thought, but he also said that he feels that Brooklyn is "always chasing something" along the way.
