Bryce James fans duped by absurd post that involves MrBeast, bounty hunters and $25 million originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The college basketball world was thrown off this week after a parody post claimed Bryce James was leaving Arizona for a $25 million YouTube challenge involving MrBeast and bounty hunters in Eastern Europe.
The false report originated from an X account ran be Scott Hughes, which tweeted that the son of NBA superstar LeBron James planned to depart the Wildcats to participate in a MrBeast video. The post claimed James would attempt to evade capture by bounty hunters for six months in Europe, with a $25,000,000 prize awaiting him if successful.
The claim quickly circulated among fans before being identified as satire. In reality, James is not leaving Arizona.
Bryce James is leaving the Arizona men’s basketball program to participate in a MrBeast YouTube challenge video. If James is able to evade capture by bounty hunters in Eastern Europe for six months, he’ll win $25,000,000.

The 6-foot-5 freshman guard recently decided to redshirt, a move confirmed by coach Tommy Lloyd. The decision allows James additional time to develop within one of the nation’s top programs without burning a year of eligibility.
“The redshirting decision was just a long play, to give Bryce the most options in his career as his career unfolds,” Lloyd told reporters. "I have a real strong belief that Bryce will be a contributor at Arizona in the near future. He’s really shown a lot of progress, not only learning our system but just physically maturing.”

James has yet to appear in a game for the top-ranked Wildcats (26-2), who are off to the best start in program history and are considered one of the favorites to contend for a national title. Arizona’s depth include a freshman class headlined by Koa Peat and Brayden Burries. This has allowed Lloyd and his staff to remain patient.
While Bryce James’ name commands attention, for now his focus remains on development in Tucson and not dodging fictional bounty hunters overseas.
