Cards receiver may miss start of camp

Bryant Johnson, one of the Cardinals' three starting receivers, is recovering from a stress fracture in his right foot and is questionable for the start of training camp.

Bryant experienced pain shortly after the team's voluntary practices ended in June, he said. Surgery wasn't required, but he's wearing a boot to immobilize the foot.

Bryant isn't sure if he will be ready to practice when training camp opens Aug. 1 in Flagstaff.

He hopes to know more about his condition after a medical examination later this week, he said.

A first-round pick out of Penn State last season, Johnson didn't make an impact as a rookie. He played in 15 games and started eight of them. He caught 35 passes and scored one touchdown but was overshadowed by second-round pick Anquan Boldin, who set an NFL rookie record with 101 receptions.

Coach Dennis Green has high hopes for Johnson this season. Green has decided to use a three-receiver set as his base offensive package. That includes Johnson, Boldin and this year's first-round pick, Larry Fitzgerald.

Losing Johnson for a significant amount of time would be a blow to those plans, because he is expected to be the team's main deep threat.

Read that this morning and thought to myself, "Just friggin' great. Denny's fallen under the Cardinal curse."

Luckily though, it's just a stress fracture. No surgery required.

Depending on the severity of it after his medical exam later this week, it sounds as if it will not be a big problem, just a minor. Stress Fractures are fairly common and light in nature compared to other types of injuries. At the maximum the length of healing time is 8 weeks but as short as 6 weeks, and in some cases depnding on which bone broken it can heal within 4 weeks.

So if this happened about the last day of OTA which was June 17th then he will be ready at the latest August 12th and at the earliest July 29th.

Even if he isnt ready until August 12th this type of injury he can still:
1. go to meetings,
2. do full weight training and cardio program except for weight barring stuff like running or squats,
3. and do most of the walk throughs(activities of daily living and limited walking are permitted with this type of injury)

He will be ready to go at the lasted for the Minny preseason game.

But since this has been known for at least 3-4 weeks now and this is the first time that we have hearing about it I am willing to bet it is not on the sever side of things and expect him back by the second week of training camp at the maximum.

man, I hope he doesn't go to Steadman for fixin up.

here's to a quick & full recovery

Thankfully, isn't the conventional wisdom that broken bones heal stronger than they were before? As long as they don't rush him back too much, he should be good to go.

Not that big a deal...

My son is a Navy Seal and runs 13 miles a day with an 80lb ruck for PT... he has a stress fracture in his shin... if ya have some tolerance and ya treat it as if YOU ARE AN ATHLETE... you can get past it...
