The Pittsburgh Pirates’ bats came to life on Tuesday with a 6-5 win over the Athletics.

Pittsburgh was led by Bryan Reynolds, who hit two home runs, while Brandon Lowe hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth to give the Pirates the win. It was a stellar performance from Reynolds, and Pirates manager Don Kelly isn’t surprised by his recent success.

"Just the way he’s been swinging the bat lately, barreling everything up and line drives,” Kelly said. “It’s not like he’s going up there trying to go deep. He’s just squaring the ball up and had a huge game tonight.”

The Pirates had been struggling, so Reynolds believes the win over A’s on Tuesday to even up the series was needed.

“We needed that,” Reynolds said. “We battled and came back and found a way off their closer. We needed it and it was a good one.”

With the comeback win, Pittsburgh improved to 37-37 and is two games back of a Wild Card spot.

Pittsburgh will now look for the series win on Wednesday at 9:40 p.m. ET before beginning a weekend series on the road against the Colorado Rockies beginning on Friday.
