Bruno Fernandes climbs into Portugal's top five all-time scorers
Portugal secured a 2-1 victory over Chile on Saturday in their second-to-last warm-up match ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Bruno Fernandes, who scored Portugal’s second goal of the evening, moved into the top five of the national team’s all-time goalscoring charts.
The decisive moment came in the 75th minute when Francisco Conceição found Fernandes on the edge of the penalty area. The 31-year-old midfielder fired a precise effort across goal, beating goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux and doubling Portugal’s advantage to 2-0. The strike marked another milestone in the Manchester United captain’s international career.
The goal was Fernandes’ 29th for Portugal and came in his 88th appearance for the national side. In doing so, he drew level with former striker Nuno Gomes in fifth place on Portugal’s all-time scoring list, further cementing his status as one of the country's most influential players of the modern era.
